A web application to help people learn sign language.
SignLearn is made so that learning sign language will be more approachable and cheaper for people who are both interested in learning sign language and/or have interpersonal relations with a person who has a type of disabling hearing loss. At SignLearn you learn through visualization and repetition. Because of the 2 different sides to language, receiving and responding, I made two different options to learn sign language.
If the user has the ability and is willing to use their camera, they can try to recreate the movement of the video shown, and the teachable machine will measure the accuracy of the hand posing. If it is nearly correct, over 80% for 3000ms, the user will go on to the next screen where they can go on to repeat the next sign.
The other option is for people who are not able to use their camera or are not willing to, where they can look at a video and choose the right answer out of a couple of options. Whenever the user gets it right, they can go on to the next one. Whenever they don’t, they get another try.
SignLearn is unique towards competing products because of the instant feedback given to the user. The teachable machine is trained to recognize the movements of a user and eventually shows how accurate it was in comparison to the example given. Because of this immediate feedback the user will get a clearer picture of how the movement is done, resulting in more legible signs.
