Your addiction wrote the last chapter, you write the next.
Freewrite is a mobile app for young adults between 18 and 27 who notice that their usage of stimulants (particularly partydrugs) is slowly becoming a problem and want to make a positive change.
Freewrite tailors a personal journey for each user based on things like frequency of use, the setting in which they use, and personal goals. The journey consists of different types of minigames built on narrative therapy that help the user reflect on their previous experiences and grow from them.
Your progress is reflected through a personal avatar that represents you within the app. By completing minigames and assignments you earn coins, which you can use to purchase various items to customise your avatar with.
Freewrite also includes a community tab where users can share stories, give tips, advice, or ask questions.
Most existing self-help apps are built around cognitive behavioral therapy, which is a big part of why they fall short. They feel repetitive, clinical, or boring. Additionally, going to a clinic or seeking professional help is a large threshold that often feels too high for most people. Freewrite attempts to offer a new approach to self-help recovery apps by helping the user learn and reflect through their own narrative.
